Poisons of the World – Warfare

Commencing operation . . .

Overview

Bitter strife and warfare. The world needs none of it. Surely there is a better way of reaching a consensus than all-out war. Before designing a solution, the problem first needs to be defined. There are three main toxins caused by the venom that is warfare which I would like to discuss.

  1. Humanity at its Worst
  2. Environmental Damage
  3. Diverts Resources
1. Humanity at its Worst

The problem with warfare is that it brings out the worst in human potential. War is unfortunately very profitable to governments and organisations, which is why it will be complicated for this world to attain a sense of lasting peace.

Dividing people, turning one against another, is a business in and of itself.

If humanity could learn to stand united as one species with one shared destiny, the world we live in would exponentially improve.

But you play as the Galactic Empire in Star Wars Rebellion!

Well yeah I know but . . .

You use the War Sun race in Twilight Imperium!

Uhhh, I can explain?

You call yourself the Overlord!

I – I . . .

Okay, I got nothing. Look, ladies and gentlemen, I tend to my warring nature at the gaming table and in fighting competitions, so I do not unleash any crazy ideas in the real world!

2. Environmental Damage

The environmental damage caused by war is devastating. You need only look through the tomes of history to realise this. To this day, there are still traces of radioactivity (Plutonium) from the atomic bomb America dropped on Japan almost seventy-five years ago.

Not only do nuclear weapons cause immediate widespread destruction, but the radioactivity produced from such weapons also lingers for many decades and causes all sorts of ruin to humanity and the environment, such as congenital disabilities and ozone layer damage.

One day, humanity will pay dearly for the destruction caused to the Earth.

3. Diverts Resources

Investing in warfare also detracts budgets from other sectors, like education and healthcare. The number of worldly problems that could be resolved by abolishing militarisation is vast. But how could such a feat be accomplished?

The Solution

Elect a planetary law that dictates all military disputes are handled through a mutually agreed competition/sport/game among all affected countries. Less bloodshed and death also provides a bonding opportunity for all participating countries. Alternatively, elect a planetary law that bans weapons of mass destruction and places an armament limitation on all countries to prevent any arms races.

I thought you weren’t going to come up with any crazy ideas for the real world . . .

Apologies, but I am afraid that is how my mind works – I am not delusional! Honestly, though, I think a policy resembling what I have mentioned above could be a significant step toward a less violent world.

The human race does not need all of these ridiculously overpriced military technologies. Humanity needs to pool its resources into more globally beneficial sectors to eliminate widespread problems such as cancer and starvation – both of which could quickly be resolved by redistributing military budgets.

I think there are unnecessary amounts of fear between countries and people, which has led to an escalation of military might among nations.

Political leaders are both cowardly and greedy, which is why they want to escalate an arms race. It is profitable for them, and they feel safe behind big guns. If everyone agreed to stand down, however, there would be no need for big guns.

Or any guns at all. If people are so fearful of getting attacked, that they have to possess firearms or any other weapon, then they should become proficient in self-defence, and they will find that the fear will subside.

With the way things currently stand, I think it would take nothing short of an act of heroism and bravery, for the world to dematerialise.

Someone needs to take a stand, voluntarily dematerialise and have faith that no neighbouring country decides to invade. If this can be proven, I think it will not be long after that the rest of the world will follow suit. It is incredibly gutsy, but it is this kind of courage the world desperately needs.

Conclusion

I believe the strongest weapon humanity wields, lies in diplomacy and negotiation rather than violence and warfare. Humanity survived the early days by banding together and out-thinking faster and stronger species. This principle need not change with the passage of time as it has done through increased militarisation. If the world agrees to demilitarise, and then an outer world threat descends, it is up humanity to either utilise diplomatic strategies to forge amicable relations or out-think them using superior intellect.

That is the strength of the human race.
