Best Eats – Tomato Soup

Commencing operation . . .

Overview

Happy Halloween! I should have written this entry on Pumpkin soup instead, but I suppose soup that looks like blood can make for a sweet Halloween trick in its own right. I have discovered this amazing life hack that I have to share with you! I am going to tell you the easiest, quickest, and healthiest way of making tomato soup. Now I used to buy tinned soup as it was a convenient way of making a quick meal back in the days when my lifestyle was more hectic. The thing is, though, many soup tins, even ones which try to be healthy, tend to have a fair amount of added salt to preserve the contents and other chemical compounds potentially. I believe the best way forward is to show you a comparison of a tinned soup against my solution, so please consider the following.

Healthiest Tinned Tomato Soup

I took a look at the grocery store I shop, and the healthiest tomato soup tin I could find had the following ingredients.

Organic Tomato Puree (34%), Organic Diced Tomatoes (33%), Filtered Water, Organic Cream (Milk) (4%), Organic Sugar, Organic Onions, Sea Salt, Organic Cracked Black Pepper

On the whole, this is pretty good, but the sugar and salt content is not ideal. We can do better!

Tinned Tomatoes

Okay, here is the magic moment. On the other side of the comparison, we have a tin of chopped tomatoes. Again, this is the healthiest one I could find in the supermarket I shop.

Organic tomatoes (65%), organic tomato juice, acidity regulator citric acid

Far less salt and sugar, the only down point is that there is a bit of citric acid to regulate the acidity levels of the tomatoes.

Conclusion

Tinned tomatoes are my winning solution for tomato soup. It is just as quick as preparing any soup tin, and it is healthier. All you have to do is empty the contents into a saucepan and heat for a few minutes. I like to sprinkle a little Himalayan pink salt into the soup, and that is it! I tend to consume the soup on its own, or sometimes I have a small side salad to go with it. You can have bread if you wish; the soup is thick and chunky enough to compliment it. If it is too thick for your liking you can always blend the soup, but I do not bother.

Preparing tomato soup from scratch will likely be healthier than my solution, but that takes additional time. I want my soup to be a meal I can prepare in minutes with no fuss. Give it a try when you get the chance; it makes for an incredibly straightforward, quick, and healthy meal.
