With the buzz surrounding the Coronavirus, I figured now would be a good time to discuss various ways of how to boost your immune system naturally. There are not a lot of studies that can directly confirm an improved immune system, but the general consensus is that healthy living goes a long way in supporting your immune system. So consider the following seven ways of supporting your immune system.

1. Eat Healthily

As with any army, your immune system best fights when it is nourished with wholesome foods. Your entire body, including your immune system, will function more effectively if it is fuelled by good food.

2. Exercise Regularly

Exercise helps your body defend against infections in various ways. Not only does your sweat remove toxins from your body, but an elevated heart rate also allows the cells comprising your immune system to travel throughout your body quicker, and thereby fight infections more rapidly. 3. Sleep Well

There is nothing like a good night of rest to keep your immune system in tip-top fighting form. Lack of sleep makes you feel sluggish and tired right? Do you think your immune system is going to perform much differently under those conditions? Ensure you aim to get a solid eight hours of uninterrupted sleep for best performance.

4. Maintain Hygiene

This should go without saying, but cleanliness will help prevent germs from growing around you. Wash your hands, trim your nails, shower daily, brush your teeth twice a day, and keep your living space clean. Enough said.

5. Some Poison

That being said, you do not need to become a paranoid health freak. A little bit of poison here and there will keep your immune system functioning at a low level. A little bit of junk food is okay, and you don’t need to have a perfectly spotless room either.

Think about it. If a country lives in a Utopian state, there won’t be many guards or much security. If an outside threat then invades, it will take longer for the country to mobilise a defence system to counteract the invasion.

Similarly, if your immune system is functioning, even at a low level, when a virus does invade the body, it can respond rapidly to the situation and thereby allow a higher chance of eliminating the threat before it can spread.

6. Cold Showers

Cold showers can raise the levels of white blood cells in the body, improving overall immunity. Becoming accustomed to the freezing cold, can also increase resistance against oxidative stress and keep you healthy.

7. Take Supplements

Vitamin C and Echinacea are both great supplements to take if you want to lend a helping hand to your immune system. I would refrain from relying too heavily on supplements, however, as they can potentially weaken your immune system during the long term.

If your body becomes accustomed to receiving additional supplements to support your immune system, the system itself will become reliant on those supplements and subsequently become weaker.

Conclusion

Take care of yourself, and your immune system will take care of you. Follow the seven suggestions to boost your immune system naturally. Stay safe during these unusual times but without resorting to paranoia or overcautious behaviour.
