Poisons of the World – Toxic People

Commencing operation . . .

Overview

People eh? You have likely come across the term ‘toxic people’ used to describe individuals whose presence causes adverse reactions upon others, usually due to their behaviour. They will try to manipulate, disrespect, undermine, and use a whole bunch of other degenerate tactics, to make you feel inferior and doubtful about yourself. So while you should certainly avoid these types of people in your life, I want to take this a step further, however, and boldly declare the following.

 All people are venomous.

The Problem

The degree of toxicity within any individual will vary, however. Think about it for a second, though. Where do your life problems originate from? Problems are sourced either by neglecting your health (in the form of illnesses or chronic pains, for example), or ultimately, they stem from other people.

People create problems for other people.

Whether it be relationship problems, issues at work, or whatever else it may be, directly or indirectly, the source of these problems comes from other people. In the current day and age, humanity faces a constant connectivity conundrum. People are almost always interacting with others via their smartphones and social media or even face to face in all honesty. This causes people to lose themselves in the process because all of the external noise, generated through these endless interactions drowns out that small but oh so vitally important inner voice. The balance has shifted, but for the sake of all humanity, the scales need to be re-calibrated.

The Solution

Surely then, for the sake of maintaining our sanity, it makes complete sense to periodically distance ourselves from such external strife and seek solace from within. My book, Black Box, details various strategies and methods to achieve such a result.

Now I’m not saying you avoid everyone all the time! People do need each other to keep healthy on a mental and emotional level. Humans survived and outlived many other faster and stronger species because of two reasons.

  1. Ability to think and problem solve, allowing humanity to outmanoeuvre other species
  2. Ability to form tribes (communities), which increased odds of survival among other species.

I wholeheartedly believe that humanity will prosper more readily if people spent less time with each other. Less time does not equate to no time at all! Social groups of various kinds are of great benefit to us all — family, friendships, activity groups, and so on. We do need to stand united but just not be connected all the damn time. The most significant progress any individual can make is when they are on their own, within their element, grinding away at their craft within solitude.

Conclusion

The next time you are invited to hang out somewhere, consider declining. Start spending more time on your own, with your inner voice. I challenge you to choose a weekend to dedicate entirely to yourself and see what happens.
