Overview

You often hear about people celebrating the big wins in life. Passing exams, getting promoted or getting married, for instance. Power to those people, I believe the big wins should also be celebrated.

But what of the small ones?

The little things that are often brushed to the side, as if they were inconsequential. I think it’s important, perhaps even more so essential to celebrate the small victories than the big wins.

The Little Things Matter

Our lives are made up of many building blocks. Each block represents an obstacle confronted or an achievement made. Over time these building blocks can create something awe-inspiring, and it is at this point, major celebrations take place.

But the process of creating those individual bricks and positioning them to make the skyscraper? The grind is not usually celebrated, and I believe this is a mistake that many of us can fall into. You see, many people lose momentum and collapse before the tower is built because they run out of steam or priorities change.

Creating a positive feedback loop that works to your advantage can help you stay on track of your goals. That is why I believe it is essential to celebrate minor victories in life. Now I am not saying to throw a wedding sized party for every small win you have, but treating yourself to something nice once in a while when things do go right can help maintain forward momentum.

It could be something simple like rewarding yourself with some chocolate cake because you had an incredibly productive and great day, for instance. Or perhaps something you worked on was recognised by an authority figure or the public, so you treat yourself to something fancy.

Time to Celebrate

No doubt this has been a challenging year for the vast majority. The lockdowns have caused much dismay among the British population, and I imagine the same holds for the rest of the world. Many are frustrated by the recent addition of the tier 4 lockdown that is in place currently. Plans for the festive season have been terminated for most if not all of Britain.

Despite all of this, I believe if everyone can dig deep and search hard enough, they may each find a reason to celebrate this holiday season. For me, the simple fact of surviving the year is enough justification to celebrate. I made a short video on a jazz arrangement of Jingle Bells which you can listen to below.

Conclusion

Times are rough with the tier 4 lockdownso now more than ever is it essential to try and stay uplifted. For some people, survival is a daily struggle, so making it through the day when morale is low is worth celebrating in some manner or other. Please do not take the little things in life for granted as it is often that a culmination of small things can amount to something great.
